A Collaborative Exploration with
Howard University & Norwich University

Creative Resilience, Carbon & Complexities showcases student projects that explore the concepts of Biophilia and Ornament in the context of creating human comfort while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. Students in the schools of architecture at both Howard University in Washington, D.C., and Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, worked in teams to design and build prototypes for sun shading. This project is a result of a collaboration that began in 2023 between Nea Maloo of Howard University and Danny Sagan of Norwich University. Both professors teach the required Active Systems courses, and the featured design/build projects are the result of a three-week module instructed simultaneously at both institutions within the Systems curriculum.
